So what the heck is this magazine about anyway? "newWitch is dedicated to young adult and/or beginning Witches, Wiccans, Neo-Pagans, and other earth-based, ethnic, pre-Christian, shamanic, and magical practitioners. The one thing we all have in common is a willingness to look at the world, our spiritual paths, and ourselves in new ways." That's from our guidelines. And it's a pretty good definition.

But newWitch is more than that. newWitch espouses certain principles. We believe that whatever you put into the universe, you get back out. We believe that people have the right to practice whatever religion they want, as long as they don't get in anyone else's face or restrict their freedom and practice. We believe that consenting adults have the right to love, sleep with, or do whatever in the privacy of their own homes. We believe in equality of race, gender, creed, sexual orientation, handedness, hair color, and whether or not people like anchovies on pizza.

We believe nothing is sacred, insofar as "sacred" is defined as "cannot be questioned." We are willing to ask questions others shy away from; we are willing to tell the truth, as best as we know how. Sacred cows make the best hamburger.

This is your magazine. It isn't about "Paganism," "Wicca," "Heathenism" or "witchcraft." It's about people who happen to practice one, some, or all of these things, or are at least interested in doing so. It's about our hopes, fears, desires, wants, successes, failures. It's about the neat stuff we experience, the challenges we face, and the world we live in.
