How to Write Reviews for newWitch Magazine by Azrael Abyss
Rusty Cauldron Press, East Antioch, OR, 2006.
Reviewers are encouraged to say exactly what they like and dislike about products. All reviews must include a Broomstick rating of not less than zero (for the worst, most irresponsible thing you've ever read) and not more than five (the greatest book in Pagan history, at least this month).
newWitch and all other BBI Media requires submitting authors to assign BBI both print and electronic publishing rights for their material. If you are unwilling to assign non-exclusive e-rights for your material, we respectfully request you submit your material elsewhere.
Review Materials:
newWitch welcomes review materials from publishers and distributors. All copies, when sent, become the property of newWitch and will not be returned. Anyone wishing to send review materials should contact Kenaz Filan, Managing Editor, for the address they are to be sent to. Kenaz can be reached at meditor@newwitch.com.
Review copies are distributed to freelance and staff writers on a first-come, first-served basis using the nW contributors' email list. When we send a review copy, we expect a review – and we expect you to have actually read, listened to or used the product in question. If you can't complete a review for some reason, you must contact us by e-mail and explain why.
As a general rule, we provide no more than three (3) items to review at any given time, and expect finished reviews back within two monthsof your receipt of the review copy. We will accept reviews of some non-Pagan books and music on a case by case basis. They must be of interest to witches, and they must be rated 0, 1, 4, or 5 broomsticks. (We don't waste space on the mediocre) We are more likely to be able to use music reviews in this capacity, and there is no genre preference here -- we're not just talking about folk or women's music. We are likely to have a slight preference for small or independent record labels and publishing houses in this capacity.
Renumeration:
Your payment for a submitted review, regardless of whether or not we publish it, is the thing you reviewed. It's yours to keep, free and clear. If we publish the review, you also get paid. Accepted reviews get a flat payment of $15: reviewers receive complimentary copies of the issues their material appears in.
The Managing Editor will try to tell you upon submission whether she wants to publish your review now, hold it for a later issue, or not take it at all. If she chooses not to take it, you may seek other avenues for publication immediately. If she asks to hold it, you're free to submit it somewhere else after six months (or two issues, whichever comes first) has passed from date of receipt.
